Thrifty Thursday

It has been so long since I have done one of these post!!

Check out all the awesome fabric I scored today.

009
I’m not exactly sure what you would call this type of fabric, but it feels just like the minky fabric you can buy from the fabric store.  It is so soft!!  The burnt orange is about 2 yards long and the turquoise one is about 1 yard.  I think that these will end up as backs for some throws or baby blankets.

011 012
This one is about 4 yards long and I had been eye balling it for a while and I finally decided that today was the day it was coming home with me.

013
I had been eye balling this one too and it was finally on sale today.  It is a little over 3 yards long and this one is 60” wide!!

015 016
This one is the same measurements as the one above!  I loved the red pin stripes all over it!!

017
This one is about 4 yards long.  I know that it looks like it is wool, but it’s not it is cotton.  When I saw it sin the bin with the rest of the fabric I had to feel it to make sure it wasn’t wool.  I love it!  And all of this fabric together was only $10!!  Can you believe it?  That is almost 17 yards of fabric!  I couldn’t be happier with my finds today.  Have you found anything good lately?

Sewing a new wardrobe

Good afternoon Everyone!!

It has been quite a while since I did a Thrifty Thursday post, and even though it is Sunday instead of Thursday I wanted to share it anyway!  I have been going thrifting on Thursday's , it's just been so hard to remember to take photos of my finds so that I could share them with yall.

I have been wanting to update my wardrobe here lately, seeing as how all I usually wear is tank tops and shorts and the occasional T-shirt and jeans.  I just can't justify spending very much money on clothes when school is about to start and my boys need things more than I do.  So I have been scouring the thrift stores for a while now looking for things that catch my eye and these are 2 of them that I turned into skirts.

Once again forgot to take photos, but the before was a horrible 80's style jumper with huge shoulder pads and it actually came down to my ankles!  I removed the skirt from the top part cut it down to make it the right length and kept the pockets.  (I love pockets!)  I kept the top part for another outfit.  Everything in this photo including the belt and Tank top came from the thrift store.  All together the whole out fit was $3.00!  You cannot beat that, I don't know of anywhere I could buy a complete outfit for that amount!!

This was a shirt that was way WAY too tight across my chest and under my arms, but I loved the fabric and the fact that it was a button up top with lace around the edges.  SO what was I to do?  Turn it into a skirt of course!!  So what do yall think about the new additions to my new and growing wardrobe?  Well until next time..................

Happy Crafting!!!

Thrifty Thursday and my garage sale finds!!

First I am happy to announce that my mom loved her package!!!  Now onto what I promised to share with yall earlier in the week (my great garage sale finds)!!!

I have been slowly working on getting my bedroom decorated how I wanted it and there have been several things I've been looking for and I finally found a few of them.  And since I am a very cheap thrifty person I will only buy things like that at thrift stores, garage sales or things that are being thrown given away.   So because of this it has taken me awhile to find these things at resonable (cheap) prices.

Don't you love it?!!!  It has so much charm!!!  And what's even better is that it was only $5.00 and compared to the other one's that I've found that were $20 and more I couldn't be happier!!!

I love this gumball machine!!!  Not sure if my kids will be lucky enough, to have it filled with gum balls though.

Look at the rust!!  I'm so giddy over here I can't even type without looking over at it!!  The face plate is upside down, but I think I'll leave it that way, I don't want to mess anything up by taking it apart and I don't really mind it.  See I told you I found some really great stuff while I was out garage saling!!  I found a few more things too, but my computer seems to have eaten the photos because I can't find them anywhere!!

So what great thrifty things have you found recently???  So until next time.............

Happy Thrifting!!!

Thrifty Thursday

Happy Thursday Yall!!!

I am so excited about tomorrow's post because the Hooded Towel Tutorial is all ready to be posted!!!  Aren't you excited???  I almost scratched my Thrifty Thursday post so I could post the Tutorial today, but I wanted to share some of the great stuff I found today so I'm making yall wait til tomorrow (it will be worth the wait I promise).  So onto my great finds then........

(oh and I only spent $10)
I love that plate, the flowers remind me of spring.  These 2 and some glue are going to become this...............................

See won't that be a perfect cake or cookie plate.  I like how the brown on the edge of the plate look great with the wooden candle stick and what makes it even better is it will have only cost me $1.50

You can never have too much milk glass!!!  See the stamp on the bottom........ Loving it!!!

Ok, you got me, I'm on 50's style flower kick!!  I'm always on a 50's kick but these flowers are beautiful and I just can't pass them up!!!

I'm thinking these will probably get used for our tea party! Or even hair clips or play clothes or.......  So many ideas.

And no I can't pass up any vintage sheets. Yes I am a sheet hoarder, ahhh much better I've said it!!  But my justification for these is that I just cut up a bunch of my sheet stash for a quilt I'm working on.

The first photo is so you can see the detail of this material.  It's a full yard of busy colors!!

So there you have it, my thrifty finds from today.  What great things have you found?  Until next time........

Happy Thrifting!!!

Thrifty Thursday

I hit the mother load of vintage sheets during my thrifting excursion this week!!!  If you've ever gone thrifting for vintage sheets then you know that it's not always a success.  I have to admit sometimes it gets a little discouraging, but I keep going because when I have days like this one it's all worth it!!

These first 2 are complete sets (queen size fitted sheet, flat sheet and 2 pillow cases)
This one is a full sized fitted sheet............

This is a full sized fitted sheet and a pillow case.......

This is a very large round table cloth that is actually 2 pieces sewn together.........

This one is a king sized fitted sheet there was a flat sheet that matched it, but it was thread bear in a few places and stained so it has been put to use as dusting rags...............

This one is a queen sized fitted sheet.............
Now these 2 are not vintage, but I have big BIG plans for them in a few up and coming quilts..........

Now I have saved my favorite thrifty find for last, it isn't actually vintage it is a reproduction but it is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!

Isn't it awesome???  Now the best part about all of these great thrifty finds is all of them together only cost me $26.00.  I think I just got the thrifty boost I needed!!!  What great things have you found out on your thrifty excursions lately???

Happy Thrifting!!!

Thrifty Thursday

Happy Thursday everyone!!!

How is the weather where you are today?  It's frigid here today (well considering the 80 degree weather we had yesterday) and windy.  This cold brisk weather didn't stop me from making my weekly trip to the thrift store it just caused me to add a few more layers to my outfit.

I have been wanting to make another rag quilt since the first one I made a couple of months ago.  It was a lot of fun to put all of those prints together  and make a beautiful quilt.  I've been collecting vintage sheets for awhile now so I could start on my second quilt.  I'd like to say who it's for, but there's a chance she might see this and I don't want to ruin it so that will have to wait until later.  I've also been looking for sheets to make a quilt for a new family member we will be getting in the next couple of months.  My brother-in-law got married Dec. 31 and him and his new wife are expecting a baby so I'm so excited to have the opportunity to make my new niece or nephew a quilt.

Ok, now back to the wonderful treasures I found today at the thrift store, and to top it off all these great things were only $8.  I got 4 queen size vintage sheets, 1 full size vintage sheet, a beautiful vintage kings size pillow case and a lovely green knitted shrug.  Not bad huh?  Now on to a little show and tell............

This is the beautiful king size pillow case.  I love that green and the stripes and those pretty little flowers.
This is only one photo of all the really cute prints on this sheet.  I don't know if it's just mine or if it's blogger all together, but for days now blogger has been warping my photos and turning the opposite way.  So needless to say I can't show you the rest of this really cute sheet like I had planned.

There were 2 of these so I snatched them both up.  This photo doesn't do it justice, there are several shades of blue and a really pretty shade of lilac.

I love all the flowers and colors in this sheet.  Matter of fact these are all (can't say who's) favorite colors.

I love how the flowers on this one look like they've been painted with watercolors and they are also the same colors as the one above.  Perfect match!!

I'm very disappointed with this photo too!!  This is a more vibrant green in person, but you can see the great detail really well in this photo.  I can't wait to wear this out somewhere.

Well that about wraps it up for this Thrifty Thursday, what thrifty things have you found lately?

Happy Thrifting!!!

Thrifty Thursday

I haven't posted a Thrifty Thursday post in quite sometime and it hasn't been becaues of a lack of finds I just haven't taken enough photos lately.  BUT this is not the case today!!  I may have only taken one photo but it was well worth it.  I did find many things and what was great about it was I only spent $5.25 because our local thrift store has had a half off sale for the past two weeks.  I found a really great sheet set that has owls all over it (I am head over heals for owls here lately), 4 vintage pillow cases, a cloche, 2 very nice 100% wool jackets (that I will be felting later), a very nice shirt for my honey, 18 different sized mirrors ( the largest is about 10" round and the smallest is about 2" round), lots of scrap fabric and this wonderful embroidered bear that is in a lovely green frame!!!

Look at all the beautiful hand embroidery and all those beautiful colors!!  Oh and I forgot to mention he was actually free!!!  Yes free!!  They have a free section where they put things that they don't think they can sale and the put a small X on the back of the item so they know that it's from the free section.  Oh how I love him it makes me so happy just looking at him.

I've been contemplating opening an etsy shop to sale some of my homemade things and some of my vintage thrifted finds.  I would truly hate to part with this beautiful bear, but if I can't find a place for him he may be one of the first items in my shop.

I've got lots of things planned I have been crafting like crazy and have alot of things set up to photograph tomorrow so there will be plenty of posts to read soon.  So until next time.........

Happy Crafting!!!

Thrifty Thursday

I want to start off by saying hello to everyone that reads my little blog and I'd like to appologize for my abscence here lately!!!

Ok, now on to fun things.  Today is Thursday, so that means that it's thrifting day!!!  I feel so much.........
today because I found lots and lots of great things today for only $10!!  Yep that's right I said $10!!

I found 4 wooden shutters, 3 vintage (and wonderful) pillow cases, a wooden embroidery hoop, 3 wooden letters (which I just posted a photo of above) and a cars ball for my son!!!  I will probably paint the letters a different color and use them for Christmas decorations for now, but they will serve a much different purpose after the holidays!!!

Please excuse the really crappy photo my camera died as soon as I snapped the photo so it's very blurry.

Aren't they just wonderful!!!  So until next time (which I'm hoping will be soon)........

Happy Crafting (and thrifting)!!!!

Thrifty Thursday

Wow it has been quite a while since I posted a Thrifty Thursday post!!!
I found some really great things today and what made it even better was all together I spent $7.  It was a little more than I usually spend, but this time I had the 2 year old with me and we had to get some toys too (ofcourse).

Ok I have to say, the turquoise/teal and white cup with the silver handle and the matching bowl along with the white owls with turquoise eyes are by far my favorites!!!

Oh and the ice cream cone cup is going to be part of my very next tutorial that I will be working on next, aren't you just so excited to see what it will be (wink, wink).  And I'm sorry to say I didn't get a chance to take photos of the toys they were pre-occupied when I took these photos.

I hope everyone enjoys thrifting as much as I do, you find some of the greatest things at the thrift store!!!  So until next time.......

Happy Crafting ( and Thrifting of course)!!!
